Firstly it's only right to say that Roulette is a game of chance, whilst you can perhaps give yourself a better opportunity of winning through the choices you make, ultimately the wheel is designed for the house to win and sooner or later that will be the case if you continue to play.
Let's look at some tips for getting the best value for your money if you decide to play some online roulette.
PLAY STAKES THAT MATCH YOUR BUDGET
One of the simplest tips for any form of roulette, is playing a sensible stake that matches the budget you are starting with. If for example you're starting out with £20 ( or your currency equivalent ) there is no point heading to a higher stakes table and potentially losing your balance after the first spin, as there will be a minimum bet required for you to play.
Browse what stake tables you can play on and choose one that is going to suit the amount of cash you are starting with, this will at the very least give you more entertainment for your money.
WHICH STYLE OF ROULETTE TO PLAY
To give yourself the best chance against the house you need to choose a European Roulette table to play on, the European wheels only have 1 zero on them which gives the house just a 2.63% edge. If you play American Roulette you will notice that in addition to the zero slot on the wheel there is also a double zero, this increases the house edge to 5.26%.
When it comes to deciding whether you play live roulette or an automated version, that is solely down to the preference of the player. I always like to play on the live tables as you get a real croupier that gives you more of an authentic feel, I'm also not keen on the automated versions as I know that roulette is a game of chance, but I don't want to be tied to a set percentage chance based game where the outcome of the spin is potentially pre determined before the ball has landed.
If you do choose to play an automated version, always make sure you're playing at an online casino that has a very good reputation, this will guarantee you that although the game has a set percentage it needs to keep to, the game will be regularly audited and run on a random number generator that ensures fair play.
BEST BETS TO PLACE
When you see roulette players placing their bets on the tables, they often stick to particular sections of the wheel that they prefer and bet heavier on them as oppose to spreading their bets over more numbers, this of course will bring in a much healthier return if the ball lands in that given section. This is usually something you see with players that have a lot more experience playing roulette and a nice sized bankroll to play with.
A much more sensible approach that will give you a better chance of getting into profit and most certainly make your money last a lot longer, is playing what is known as the outside. This is a tactic where you place a bet or bets on an outcome that is much more likely to happen, but will pay you a smaller reward if it lands.
When playing the outside, the lowest paying bets are known as the even money bets, examples of these are as follows.
Betting either red or black.
Betting either odd or even.
Betting either 1 - 18 or 19 -36.
These give you the highest possibility of winning, with a 48.65% chance of hitting in European Roulette. If one of these bets land and for example you bet £1, you would receive £2 back.
Other outside bets to place that give you the best success of winning are the dozens and columns bets, each one of these will cover approximately a third of the numbers on the roulette wheel. Examples of these are as follows.
Betting either 1 - 12.
Betting either 13 - 24.
Betting either 25 - 36.
Betting either column 1, 2 or 3.
The chances of one of these bets landing in European Roulette are 32.43%. If one of these bets land and for example you bet £1, you would receive £3 back.
CASHOUT IF YOU GET AHEAD
Knowing when to walk away is key to all gambling activity and roulette isn't any different. If you find that the wheel is being kind to you and you've managed to get yourself a nice healthy balance, head to the cashier and at the very least cash yourself out a profit. As with all casino games eventually the house edge will catch up with you and all of your profit and deposit will be gone.
Likewise if you're hitting a terrible losing streak, don't keep re-depositing cash to chase your losses, call it a day and try again another time. I always recommend that you have a deposit limit in place on your account to prevent any massive losses.

DON'T PLAY OR BUY A FOOL PROOF SYSTEM
As I said at the start of this article, roulette is a game of pure chance. You may encounter systems for sale on the internet promising guaranteed profits, the one thing guaranteed is that they won't work and you will be out of pocket for buying it, and out of pocket when the house edge inevitably takes over and you bust out.
Some systems you may find for free on the net, but the outcome will still be the same, if they were that fool proof would people really be giving the information away for free? or selling it for £9.99, I think not.
My one experience of seeing a so called system, was when a friend of mine tried out the Martingale system at a land based casino on roulette. The system states that you bet only red or black / odd or even, or any even money bet, and if you don't win then you bet the same again but double up your stake. This eventually when you win gives you a small profit and you start the process over again.
The problem was that my friend started on a £5 bet on black, this didn't win so he doubled up and went again after 7 losing bets the next stake was £640. He played this and lost again, so in a matter of minutes a total of £1275 had been staked and lost.
Systems don't work. Don't be sucked in by them.
